BSI Delivers Modern Air Combat Environment (MACE) to Grayling Air Gunnery Range

The Grayling Air Gunnery Range has implemented BSI’s Modern Air Combat Environment
(MACE) to provide both computer generated forces (CGF) and a manned pilot station for Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) training. MACE is a DIS-enabled threat environment capable of generating a wide variety of semi-autonomous forces and will be used at Grayling to create contested environments for their JTAC training mission. Feedback from Grayling: “Two more really successful sim periods today…I love this software!”

Visualization pioneer Barco is proud to announce that Alenia Aermacchi, part of the Aeronautics Sector of Finmeccanica led by Alenia Aeronautica, has selected Barco to construct a visual display system for its M-346 trainer jet flight simulator. The simulator, developed in partnership with CAE, will be used on tradeshows and other promotional events to demonstrate the power of the trainer aircraft to potential customers.

Lockheed Martin Delivers First F-35 Full Mission Simulator to Eglin Air Force Base

Orlando, April 18th, 2011 — Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] marked the delivery of the first F-35 Lightning II Full Mission Simulator (FMS) system to Eglin Air Force Base’s 33rd Fighter Wing. Preparation and assembly is underway at the base’s F-35 Integrated Training Center (ITC) for training to commence this fall.
The Joint Strike Fighter FMS includes a high-fidelity 360-degree visual display system and a reconfigurable cockpit that simulates all three aircraft variants for U.S. and international partner services. The system is the highest fidelity trainer in the F-35 pilot-training-device suite, accurately replicating all F-35 sensors and weapons deployment.

New Qualification Document for Helicopter FSTDs

Under the auspices of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), an International Working Group (IWG) has been working for the last 4 years on developing new criteria for the classification and qualification of civil helicopter Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTDs), based on pilot training tasks. The intention is for the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) to publish a new volume of the Manual of Criteria for the Qualification of FSTDs – Document 9625 dedicated to helicopters and its subsequent adoption by civil aviation authorities worldwide.
