The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) opened its recently upgraded ship’s bridge simulator training facility at HMAS Watson in Sydney on 25th March 2011. Featuring a host of new full mission and desktop simulators from Kongsberg Maritime, the new facility represents one of the most advanced naval training centres in the world and will be used by RAN cadets to learn to pilot the next generation of warships, alongside a wide range of critical training applications, including anti-piracy.
Norwegian Design Council recognises design innovation with prestigious award
Kongsberg Maritime’s New Offshore Vessel Simulator Instructor System has received a prestigious Award for Design Excellence from the Norwegian Design Council (NDC). The award was presented to Kongsberg Maritime during the NDC’s Design Day, which took place in Oslo on Wednesday 16th March 2011.
Kongsberg Maritime’s simulation division and Vestfold University College has signed a framework agreement to further explore activities and projects of joint interest within research and development of maritime simulators from an innovation and human factor perspective. The agreement which was signed 22nd December 2010 comprises extensive R&D project plans and the use of an Interactive Simulator Laboratory (SIMSAM lab) at Vestfold University College, which will serve as a R&D facility.
STC-Group has signed a contract with simulation developer Kongsberg Maritime to supply extensive upgrades to its large suite of simulators. The contract consists of sophisticated extensions and upgrades to the group’s Kongsberg Maritime full mission and part task ship’s bridge simulators and its full mission engine room simulator. A complete upgrade of the group’s classroom set of 15 desktop cargo handling simulators and 15 desktop engine room simulators including instructor stations for both classrooms is also included in the delivery, in addition to new ship and engine models for the different simulators.
Kongsberg Maritime’s Simulation division has recently signed a new contract with Bodin Maritime School for an extensive upgrade of its existing engine room simulator. The upgrade will make the school the most modern and comprehensive engine room simulator facility in Norway, with the ability to offer a range of exercises for training and courses on different levels.
Kongsberg Maritime Simulation Inc., the North America arm of Kongsberg Maritime’s simulation division, is pleased to announce it has been awarded a contract by BC Ferries for the supply and installation of three Polaris ship bridge simulation systems to multiple sites in British Columbia, Canada.
Kongsberg Maritime will deliver updated Canadian West Coast area databases featuring 47 detailed terminals owned and operated by BC Ferries. The leading maritime simulation developer will also develop 12 new ‘own-ship’ hydrodynamic models of the BC Ferries fleet.
